Day 61 – Sixth Sunday of Easter Revd Tim Heaton’s Thought for the Day

As I sat in a cool and peaceful Silton church this morning and read today’s Bible readings (Revised Common Lectionary), these words from Acts jumped out: “God does not live in temples made by human hands.”

And then the gospel affirmed it: Jesus said, “I am in you.” You knew that already but isn’t it brilliant? I am in you. It’s great that our churches are being prayed in again but God does not live there. He lives in you and me, so that “by his continual presence in us he may raise us to eternal joy” (today’s Collect, gathering everything up very nicely as always).

The only thing living in Silton church right now is the vestry mouse. Efforts are continuing to trap him humanely and release him elsewhere. I’ll keep you posted.

Alleluia. Christ is risen. He is risen indeed. Alleluia.
