Day 12 Monday, 16 November
The world has learned much from Covid-19 – and still has much to learn. One thing we’ve learned very clearly is that human health is deeply connected to the health of our planet.
We know that viruses are most likely to spill over from animals to humans in places where we have interfered in the natural world, damaged ecosystems and lost biodiversity. The tragedy of the mink, deforestation for single-crop plantations and the illegal trade in wild animals are obvious examples.
If any good is to come from Covid – and God knows that good will result – it has been a wake-up call. The human race must now change its habits and become more considerate in its choices.
