Compline during Lent on Zoom – Wednesdays 9pm
From 24th February there will be a zoom compline every week at 9pm on a Wednesday. We will begin with chance to say hello to one another followed by the short service of compline, praying slowly and quietly, saying the psalms, listening to a short bible reading. At the end in the monastic tradition we will leave quietly, you may then choose to spend the rest of the evening quietly, or begin your bedtime routine.
The introduction to compline in common worship says
The ancient office of Compline derives its name from a Latin word meaning ‘completion’ (completorium). It is above all a service of quietness and reflection before rest at the end of the day. It is most effective when the ending is indeed an ending, without additions, conversation or noise. If there is an address, or business to be done, it should come first. If the service is in church, those present depart in silence; if at home, they go quietly to bed.
